ACTIVITIES of NOVEMBER 2009

Nov 2nd - “Kerala Piravi”- A programme to celebrate the birth of our state Kerala. There was a song and a skit presentation.


Nov 2nd – “Book Week” was inaugurated by Ms. Kamakshi Madam. An oath was taken by the students to read, which will improve their vocabulary, thinking,outlook etc. It was  a weeks’ programme which included quiz, skits, book review, debate etc. There was also a skit presentation by different characters like Red Riding Hood, Robin Hood, Sherlock Holmes, Arundati Roy. Competition was held among different sections in skit presentation.


6th Nov – “SAFETY IN OUR DAILY LIVES”, a seminar   was held in the conference hall on 7th Nov, by Disaster Management committee. Dr. K.S.A Panicker, safety officer, cochin refineries Ltd, who talked to the students about various aspects of safety in our lives. The seminar was based on various precautions to be taken to ensure maximum safety in our daily life. He told us that there are three main causes for accidents – unsafe conditions, unsafe actions and natural causes – 70% of the accidents are caused by unsafe conditions, various measures to be taken while on the road driving or walking , careless human attitudes. Packaged drinking water causes health hazards. The seminar was butterd off by a presentation, by Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, showing the future of the earth if precautions are not taken


Nov 6th – Inter School Debate- Hosted by Delta Study, Fort Kochi, Utharaa Zacharias and Chinnu George represented Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vaduthala. The event was inaugurated by Ms. Sarojini, Principal, Delta Study. Out of the 14 schools that participated, for the first Round of Prepared Speech on “Indian Economy will Prosper only if Every Rupee Earned is Taxed”- 4 teams namely(Bhavan’s, Elamakkara, Bhavan’s Eroor, Delta Study and Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vaduthala) qualified to enter the second round. Utharaa spoke for the motion and Chinnu against. The second round consisted of an Extemporary Debate on “Politicians and Environmentalists are always at Logger heads”. We emerged the champions with Utharaa adjudged the best Debater, Chinnu, the first Runner up.


Nov 14th – Children’s day celebrations- Teachers conducted the morning assembly. Skit was presenterd by the teachers. Games were held between the IXth and the XIth standards. The IX’s won the matches. Winners were given prizes. After the morning entertainment for the VIth  to VIIIth standards, they were shown a movie


Nov 16th – Music Concert by the students of Maestro  Dr. Bala Murali Krishna’s “Apple Academy School of Music”


Nov 16th – “Bhajan Sandhya”  was observed on the 1st of Vrishchikam by the staff of Chinmaya Vidyalaya in the school auditorium. Senior school students also participated


Nov 18th - 20th – “30th Inter House Annual Athletic Meet” at Maharaja’s Ground, Synthetic Track.  The 30th Annual Sports Meet conducted by our school ,Chinmaya Vidyalaya,Vaduthala ,was indeed a great success over three days-18th,19th,20th of November and was held in the Maharaja’s Ground. The official inaugural function was on the 19th of November and Kamakshi ma’am declared the meet as open. The 8th STD students had put up a wonderful P.T display.  A yoga display and performance by the yoga students of classes 3 to 5 was  also a part of the inaugural ceremony. The inaugural ceremony also saw the march past competition between the 4 houses-Aravally,Satpura,Shivalik and Vindhya.Satpura house emerged as the winners for the march  past.Thus began 2 days of intense competition between sportsperson of the 4 houses with great enthusiasm. It was indeed a must watch as our athletes ran, jumped or threw the javelin. We also had special events for amateurs.  Eventually Aravally house was declared the winners of the overall sports trophy and close to them-First runners up was the Shivalik house.The overall tournament trophy was grabbed by the Shivalik house and runners up was the Vindhya house. On 20th the meet was officially closed by the chief guest, Mr. Madhav Mohan, who had also consented to give away hard earned medals to the winners.


Nov 19th - Science Olympiad Examination initial round was held in our school. More than 300 students from class III to XII participated.


Nov 20th – 22nd – Vidyodaya  Camp- The students of std 8 accompanied by Ms. Chitra and Ms. Radhika attended a thrilling camp at Vidyodaya School, Thevakkal. The students and teachers were divided into four groups namely Ganga, Brahamaputra, Narmada and Kaveri, as the theme was “Rivers of India”. They  started with a round of ice-breaking session, followed by an obstacle race, where each participant was given different tasks. This was followed by events like Quiz, Literary session,  adventure games etc. The best of the event was the gliding and Firewalk while the toughest was the crossing the Ganga Basin, across a narrow pipe- only few managed crossing across . The next day started with Yoga, then there was cross country race, water games. The best part of the day was “Fun Zone” conducted by Clubfm943. Prizes were given for various contests. There was a campfire also. During the closing ceremony outstanding campers were given prizes. Narmada Team were the overall champions and in the teachers category Yamuna group bagged the first prize. At 4:30pm the curtains came down and we had to bid goodbye to our friends


Nov 24th- Teachers workshop at DAV School, Hyderabad – based on CCE (Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation) where  a format of the aptitude test to be conducted was discussed. Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vaduthala, was one among 20 schools selected for the programme and the only one from Kerala. A pilot aptitude Test was conducted according to the guidelines given for class IX of the school. The conference was inaugurated by Ms. Sharma, PRO and Project In-charge (SGAT). Out of 13 schools, Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vaduthala, represented Kerala. After the inaugural session, Ms. Geetanjali and Ms. Wimple, RD’s to C.B.S.E,  divided the delegates into 5 groups. It was an activity-based session, to have an exposure about emotional behaviour of the child (particularly as an adolescent). At the same time, it was a feed back session for teachers and parents in understanding each child’s strengths and weakness. Second session was the introduction of “Teacher’s Manual” for the students “Global Aptitude Test”- a pilot study to be done among the 9th students of those schools, which attended the conference. The list consists of 2 parts

          – 1) Aptitude Battery

             2) Interest profile

In the Interest Profile, students mark their interests in different subjects offered by CBSE in class 11, which are given in various combinations.

Teachers from various schools shared their anxiety about the reliability and validity of the test and how it will affect the future of the students. The workshop concluded at 4pm.. Ms. Tuney N, Ms. Pushpa J.P and Ms. Sunitha attended the workshop.


Nov 26th – A visit to the A.J Hall, Kaloor, to attend a seminar by

Prof. Arindham Choudhari, a brilliant orator, who had the audience under a spell. He spoke about management and how it is vital in every individual’s life, be it a Doctor, Engineer or an MBA. He also addressed the problems in the Indian Education System. He also spoke on how school time is spent on “looking at the watch” and how this can be solved. To be a successful person follow the 9P formula- Passion,Positive thinking, Personality Patriotism etc. Mr Choudhari’s wit and humour added colour to the seminar. Around 25 students of Commerce section accompanied by Ms. Sudha went for the seminar.


Nov 29th – C.B.S.E Maths Olympiad, initial round was conducted in our school. More than 250 students from different schools participated.
