ACTIVITIES of DECEMBER 2009

Dec 4th – Meeting with the IXth standard students’ and  parents – “Awareness Programme regarding CCE”

Dec 5th – C.B.S.E Informatics Olympiad – Initial Round was held in our school

Dec 5th – KG Sports, was held with a difference – The best part was- Parents and children had a combined hurdle race and other competitions like that


Dec 5th – Workshop on “INNOVATIVE TEACHING IN PHYSICS”, by Prof. H.C.VERMA, Faculty, IIT, Kanpur, at Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya. The workshop was purported to make Physics Teaching more lively and Child friendly, by experimentation. Various experiments on Optics, Electromagnetism and Dynamics using easy-to-pickup-gadgets were shown for teaching the Plus-2 level. By all means the workshop was successful in setting the participants to think of revamping their teaching methodology so as to make the subject less abstract and more child friendly. Ms. Bindu S and Ms. Prasanna P attended the workshop.


Dec 7th – Workshop on Maths for class IX, by Mr Jaya Babu, an IIT enthusiast.

Who would have thought that a child who had scored 100 percetage in Maths, Physics and Chemistry for the CBSE Board Exam, would score a big zero in the Ramaiyar Enterance Exam, was one of the questions put forward by Mr. Jaya Babu to the students . Listening to him was a great treat to the students, an inspiring, energetic and knowledgeable. “Learn with Fun” was his motto and this message was conveyed correctly.One of the main themes that he told us was that to go behind the concepts and not formula’s, both of which are two sides of the same coin. Concept is referred to as abstract idea , while formula is a fixed idea, which is directly applied to the problem. If we get the concept correct then all questions can be solved easily. The main message he conveyed was Maths is a subject which is required in all walks of life, which is very interesting if learnt in the right way.


Dec 8th and 9th – Training programme  for “Safe Solar Eclipse View” and the precautions to be taken for students of classes VII to IX. Organised by “Kerala eddleed.com  in our school Auditorium. A total Solar Eclipse is the most spectacular natural phenomenon on Earth worth watshing. We are fortunate enough to witness one – on the 15th of Jan 2010. “Aditya See Sun 2010”, a workshop was organized in the wake of this phenomenal event. The aim was to sensitize the student community about the hazards involved in unsafe “Eclipse Viewing” and to equip them selves with the safest method to enjoy this Celestial Feast. The whole programme was divided into 2 sessions- one an AV Presentation on the theory of Eclipse – how, why and types. The second session involved outdoor activities, - viewing the solar image through Projection Telescopes- the Azimuthal and Equatorial views, through a Pinhole Camera and a pair of Binoculars. The students were mesmerized viewing the Sun as a small cool orange ball in the clouds through special binoculars. Each student was given a leaflet on Do’s and Don’ts of “Solar Eclipse View” and a pair of “Solar View Goggles”


Dec 9th – Workshop for Science Teachers on “SCIENCE in EVERYDAY LIFE” at HOTEL INTERNATIONAL, Ekm, by Ms. Vaishali Gupta, an exceptionally gifted scholar and her vision is tom transact the same  high quality in education through various endeavors. Ms. Geetha S and Ms. Smitha K.V attended the workshop. The highlights of the workshop were-

1)      Observation through nature walk

2)      Experimentation and

3)      Worksheets

Questionnaires based on observation and experimentation was required to be filled in by the participants. This theme would be applicable more to the primary and Middle school


Dec 9th  to 13th -  “Krida Sangam”, a seminar on Physical Education, conducted by CCMT Education Cell at Coimbatore. From all over India around 98 teachers attended this seminar. From Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vaduthala, Mr. Ashokan and Mr. Binu Joseph attended the seminar. Various orators spoke on this occasion-

Dec 10 and 11th – Under the auspices of CBSE, National Sahodaya Conference for principals was held at Delhi, to discuss the implementation of CCE in Schools. Our Principal, Ms. Maya Mohan was the moderator for the discussion. C.B.S.E, Chairman, Mr. Vineeth Joshi presided over the function.


Dec 15th – “Spelling Bee” hosted by HDFC, Bank in our school auditorium was won by Vaidehi of  VIIIth std. She was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 20,000/-


Dec 21st and 22nd – “Awareness Empowerment” for Teachers in the School conducted by Mr. Manu Jose. 37 Teachers of our school attended a workshop conducted by Mr. Manu Jose, theatre person, at our school auditorium. It consisted of relaxation techniques, games and learning from games. The topics covered were rudiments of transational Analysis, use of theater in the classroom, gestures and their interpretation and basics of “Neuro-linguistics Programming”.

The participants enjoyed the informal atmosphere that prevailed throughout. They also appreciated the fact the conventional Lecture method was not adopted. The response from the participants was positive and enthusiastic.
